Mars van Grunsven is a writer whose work has appeared in Holland’s most respected publications, most notably the opinion magazine De Groene Amsterdammer and the newspaper NRC Handelsblad. He is based in Brooklyn, NY, and publishes in both English and Dutch.
His current obsessions: American imperialism, the police, car culture. Yet he has also written about anarchism, local currencies, naked bankers, idleness, a Galapagos island under the rule of a sex-crazed baroness. Also: the Tea Party, Occupy, antifa, inverted totalitarianism, (anti) capitalism, the climate crisis. Or the insanity of taking guidance from the Founding Fathers in today’s issues.
For samples of his work check out the sections Arts & Culture, Economy, Politics, and Social Issues.
In 2021, Mars joined New York City based Company Cue as lead editor, managing an international team of journalists, copywriters and editors. He is also an editor at the Foreign Desk of the Dutch press agency ANP.
Mars holds a master of law degree from the University of Amsterdam and speaks English, Dutch, French and German. He held several leadership roles within media organizations in Amsterdam before establishing himself in New York, in 2005.
